BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
October 10, 2011
The Wheeler Central Board of Education regular meeting was held on October 10, 2011.
Chairman Hoffschneider called the meeting to order at 8:00 P.M. He pointed out the location of Open
Meeting poster. Members present were: Hoffschneider, Gehl, Olson, Race, Pokorny, and Smith.
Others present were: Supt. Ehlers, Principal Klahn, Karen Kotrc, Bonita Nelson, and Melinda Russman.
Smith moved to approve the October consent agenda, with the exception of the Barone Claim.
Race seconded. Roll Call Vote: Race; yes, Olson; yes, Hoffschneider; yes, Pokorny; yes, Smith; yes, Gehl;
yes.
Smith moved to approve the superintendent request to review the superintendent contract
extension on annual basis at the December board meeting with contract to be returned by the January
board meeting. Pokorny seconded. Roll Call Vote: Smith; yes, Olson; yes, Gehl; yes, Race; yes, Pokorny;
yes, Hoffschneider; yes.
Olson moved to approve Mr. Ehlers as district representative for Federal and State forms. Smith
seconded. Smith seconded. Roll Call Vote: Olson; yes, Gehl; yes, Race; yes, Pokorny; yes,
Hoffschneider; yes, Smith; yes.
Smith moved to approve the 2011-12 insurance rates for three months, while continuing to search
other options. Pokorny seconded. Roll Call Vote: Gehl yes, Race; yes, Pokorny; yes, Hoffschneider; yes,
Smith; no, Olson; yes.
Smith moved to approve the first reading of Board Policies 284-291 and 410 on Annual Operating
Budget. Gehl seconded. Roll Call Vote: Hoffschneider; yes, Smith; yes, Olson; yes, Gehl; yes, Race; yes,
Pokorny; yes.
Gehl moved to go into executive session: strategy session with respect to review timelines on
current Superintendent contract clearly necessary for the protection of the public interest or for the
prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual in compliance with the law. Pokorny
seconded. Roll Call Vote: Hoffschneider; yes, Smith; yes, Olson; yes, Gehl; yes, Race; yes, Pokorny; yes.
Pokorny moved to leave executive session. Gehl seconded. In Favor; six. Opposed; none.
Olson moved to adjourn. Pokorny seconded. In Favor; six. Opposed; none.
Next regular board of education meeting will be November 14, 2011 at 7:00 P.M.
