Keep Our Roads Safe

    We get excited when we see the first snowflakes drift gracefully but when the flurries turn to storms, our attention shifts. Are the roads safe for our young drivers to travel? Parents begin pacing in a nervous frenzy over the safety of their children.     Most often, our road crews are clearing our highways quite early in the morning and remain on duty until their supervisors deem the situation safe for all. Backpack Program

    Wheeler Central elementary students are invited to participate in the Heartland Backpack Program. Participating students receive a food pack referred to as a “backpack”. Items in the backpacks are often microwavable meals, shelf-stable milk or juice, dry cereal and fruits.       The goal of the program is to encourage students to be active and eat a variety of foods. A school counselor focuses on three aspects of a learner - their social, academic and career growth. We help students learn to build lasting friendships, work as a team, develop confidence and self-esteem. We watch students for appropriate academic growth. Finally, we teach students the dimensions of being a career-ready adult.
